What is the Waewae Express?

 The Waewae Express

The Waewae Express was created to get people out walking!
Rangitikei Active, Roadsafe Central and Te Kotuku Hauora Rangitikei identified 2 x 1k, a 2k and a 3k blocks around the town and painted
green footprints along the route so people can easily keep on course.
The Rangitikei District Council gave their support and okay for the stencilling job over the 4 walkways.
The walks will also be prescribed by health-providers using specially designed prescription sheets which identify which walk the client is to use and how many times a week – plus health and safety tips to keep the client on track and on the Waewae way!

To celebrate this new health initiative Te Kotuku Hauora Rangitikei officially launched the walkways on November 1st 2007 and invited former All Black Rico Gear to cut the ribbon. Rico also said a few words on the importance of walking for health, being safe and eating properly.

The walks can be found from Mill Street for 3ks, Cuba Street for 1k, Bredin’s Line for 2ks and Potaka Street for 1k – just look for and follow the
green footprints painted on the footpath (about every 100 metres)!
